Occupational and physical therapists evaluate, educate and treat injured workers or those with chronic pain. The therapists also specialize in ergonomic consultation for preventing injury.
Preventative services Occupational Medicine and Wellness provides the following injury prevention services and consultations for employers.
Prework screening Prework screening evaluates employees to determine if they are capable of performing critical physical demands of their work. A prework screening performed following a functional job analysis ensures a match between the employee and the workplace, and meets Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines.
Education Education is important in preventing workplace injuries. Our rehabilitation consultants identify causes of injuries and help begin educational programs at the workplace. These programs can be customized to meet the individual needs of employers. Topics include preventing back injuries and cumulative trauma injuries.
Work-site evaluations Rehabilitation consultants offer on-site assessment of work duties, employees and work sites. Consultations are available on an individual or departmental basis. Customers receive recommendations on improved work area designs, work-site practices and adaptive equipment.

Functional job analysis A key component of injury prevention and successful return to work is a thorough knowledge of the job’s physical requirements. A functional job analysis outlines the physical functions, critical physical demands and possible modifications in work tasks. Once developed, functional job analysis can be used for ergonomic interventions, injury prevention education, work-site redesign, job rotation, prework screening and functional job descriptions.
Return-To-Work Services Our specially trained therapy staff offers several quality services that help injured workers return to their jobs as quickly and safely as possible.
Acute intervention Early access to treatment promotes a successful and timely return to work. We offer a full range of physical and occupational therapy services for treating injured workers.
Lifestyle renewal program Holistically trained occupational therapists work in partnership with patients who have chronic health conditions, such as back pain, and empower them to manage their own symptoms. Techniques include breathing, progressive relaxation, guided imagery, healing touch and qigong. Our goal is to provide a renewed sense of well-being and increase daily activities.
Work conditioning program Our supervised, structured program trains employees in flexibility and conditioning with activities that simulate on-the-job duties. This especially is helpful for rehabilitating soft-tissue injuries, parts of the body that have undergone surgery or healed fractures. Treatment is customized for each client and designed to restore function to the injured area, promote physical fitness and prepare the employee to return to work.
Functional capacity evaluation This work-related test evaluates an employee’s physical and functional abilities to help determine when an employee can return to work, and in what capacity. The evaluation is performed over a two-day period.
Hand therapy Certified hand therapists, physical therapists and occupational therapists work with injured employees to rehabilitate traumatic injuries to the hand and lower arm. This includes injuries such as open wounds, crushed fingers, tendon repairs and burns. The treatment goal is to restore hand function and identify equipment or new work processes that can help the employee return to his or her job.
